Happy Independence Day!

Park rules sign

Everyone wants to have a safe, happy, holiday this Independence Day. And they should. Independence Day is the one day that we can celebrate our country taking its own future in its hands, by telling the British King that we were unhappy with being treated as second class citizens, and not given the rights that other English subjects were due.

But if we surrender our rights “which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them” that we thought were ensured by the Constitution that we ourselves wrote, how free are we? Or are we simply just under another king, in a different guise?

One of the complaints that we had of the British King was, “He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance”. If you can be searched anytime, anywhere, for no cause, and watched everywhere you go, how is that freedom?

Something to think about this Independence Day.
